"Die vorstehende Abhandlung ist im wesentlichen eine Ergänzung und Fortsetzung der im Vorwort zitierten Annalenarbeit III 4 Nr. 6. Die Theoreme I, II, III, D, E, F, G sind genaue Wiederholungen der gleichbezeichneten Theoreme im §§15-16 der genannten Arbeit. Das 'Theorem H' S. 264 faßt dann die gewonnenen Resultate, soweit sie sich auf 'abgeschlossene' Mengen beziehen, zu einem einzigen Satze zu-276/278-sammen, demzufolge jede abgeschlossene Menge in einen abzählbaren 'separierten' einen 'perfekten' Bestandteil von der Mächtigkeit des Kontinuums zerlegt werden kann. In §2 (S. 264 ff.) wird dann versucht, durch Einführung neuer Begriffe ('Kohärenz', 'Adhärenz' und 'Inhärenz') eine entsprechende allgemeingültige Zerlegung auch der nicht abgeschlossenen Mengen durchzuführen. Die hier gewonnenen Resultate, die in den Theoremen J, K, L zusammengefaßt werden, sind aber, wie es scheint, nicht von der gleichen Bedeutung und Fruchtbarkeit wie die grundlegenden Sätze über abgeschlossene Mengen. Cantors am Schluß der Arbeit geäußerte Hoffung, sie auf eine Theorie der Körper- und Ätheratome anzuwenden, erscheint uns heute sehr problematisch." (Tw. I, II, III, D, E, F, G, H, w §1, s. 261-264).
